We left our comfortable flat in Nafplio for the drive to Athens, the final stop in the journey. We made a quick stop at the Corinth Canal but wanted to get to Athens in time for some afternoon exploration. Our hotel is situated between the Plaka and Monastiraki districts, in sight of the Acropolis if you go to the roof patio. It would be difficult to throw a stone in this area without hitting an interesting antiquity or ongoing archaeological excavation. It’s also home to Athens’ notorious flea market, a place of hustles and rip offs and incredible bargains if you know where to look. I visited a small music shop to look at bouzoukis and ended up buying a phenomenal bagalama from the man who made it. More on that later.
Here are a few images from the afternoon, with more to come over the next few days.
