A set of long but uncomplicated flights over two days (with a 24 hour layover in Philadephia, which was merciful in some ways and not others) brought us to the village of Oia on the island of Santorini. The island is a caldera left over from a massive eruption that occurred in the 2nd millennium BC, It has been occupied in some form since the Neolithic period. Steep cliffs rose out of the Aegean Sea and form a truly spectacular landscape.
We arrived in time to witness a beautiful sunset across the caldera from our rented house and to subsequently wander across the street to Santorini Moy, a traditional tavern with live bouzouki music and excellent food. And that’s about the extent of this post. We’re off to explore the island, its villages and antiquities tomorrow. But for now enjoy these photos of the sunset along with a few images of Oia’s Dream, our home for a few days.
Some additional photos of the afternoon may be found here.
Stunning photos! It looks like you found the perfect place to stay. 🙂
Hi pops! I cringed just a little bit when I saw ‘Owed to a Grecian Urn’ but that’s okay. The place looks great. Hey to mum and Uncle Scott + Aunt Cathy. Be careful!
Oh and you aren’t (are not, as in the negative) grandparents yet.
