the fire still burns

Corodon Fuller, Fenn Eubanks and I wrote this song in high school, so sometime around 1968 or ’69. Cordon had the original musical idea, which we were playing around with one evening. Fenn came back the next night with the lyrics, based on the state of our society at the time. (They still work.) I added some musical changes. We recorded what we could on a one-track one-mic Wollensack tape recorder and there it sat for 50 or so years until I decided to make a useable recording of it. Corodon’s exquisite piano playing on the original is so much better than what I could replicate here, and Fenn’s lyrics still move me, so whatever merit this song possesses is theirs. This is a complete remix and a partial rerecording of the version that appears on Basement Browsing and 2AM. I like this version better.

A lot of people expected it to die with the growing rage.
But it will keep on burning,
it lasts an age.
